Annual Charity Powerlifting Competition
The Irish National Charity Powerlifting Championships were founded in 2016 by Shane and Amanda Brodie, to help give back to those who helped their son Alex who was born in 2014 with a congenital heart defect called Transposition of the Greater Arteries (TGA).
Amanda and Shane decided to use their love of powerlifting as a source to fundraise and give back as much as possible.
Within weeks the IPO were handing over a cheque for €700 to parent’s accommodation in Crumlin, from a collection done at National Single lifts in Kilmurry Lodge Hotel in 2014.
The fundraising grew from there. Each competition brought opportunity to fundraise through door fees and raffles. Amanda along with her sister Katie also fundraised by doing a sky dive, they raised €2000.00 donated on behalf of the IPO.
Charity Powerlifting Championships 2016
In 2016 they took a leap and held the very first Charity Powerlifting Championships. The main benefactors were CMRF and Ronald Mc Donald House Crumlin.
The support from lifters throughout Ireland, and the companies that came on board along with family and friends over €14,110.00 was raised. €2000 to Ronald mc Donald which was acknowledged with a gold plaque of their wall with Alex’s name on it. The remainder went to CMRF
IPO/AIPO Charity Powerlifting Championships 2017
In 2017 the IPO became charity partners with Heart Children Ireland where Amanda is a registered volunteer.
Again supporters got behind the cause 100%. Lifters filled out sponsor cards and online donations along with various companies coming onboard with generous donations.
The Brodie family presented a cheque on behalf of the IPO and the lifters for a fantastic total of €13,032.91.
Since 2014 The Brodies along with the support of the IPO, the lifters, the sponsors, the companies who came on board have a raised €30,842.00 and they are set to continue fundraising into the distant future.
